The Queen of Cups is the thirteenth card of the Suit of Cups in the Minor Arcana. A regular tarot deck contains 78 cards, separated into two groups: 22 Major Arcana cards (big life lessons) and 56 Minor Arcana cards (day-to-day happenings). There are four suits of 14 cards each, called the Minor Arcana: Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles. Cups stand for water, emotions, love, relationships and intuition.
As the third of the court cards, the Queen sits after the Knight's romance and before the King. She sits on a carved throne at the edge of the sea, decorated with shells and cherubs, with the water lapping at her feet. In her hands is an ornate, closed cup with angels on its sides, and she gazes at it with deep attention. The Queen of Cups is the card of compassion, intuition and emotional wisdom. She is not swept away by feeling. She understands it, and it is up to you to trust that understanding.

General: The Queen of Cups is a water card. Your heart is open, and your intuition is clear. You may feel more sensitive to the moods of others, more able to listen and more at peace with your own feelings. This is a gift from your emotional side, so receive it kindly. Trust your gut, and let compassion guide what you say and do.
In love: For single people, this card brings a caring, emotionally mature connection, or a deeper bond with yourself. In a relationship, it signals tenderness, trust and a partner who truly listens. It is a good time to share your feelings openly and to create a safe space for each other. It can also point to a loving, devoted partner who puts heart first.
Career: The Queen of Cups is a good omen for caring and creative work. It may be a role in counselling, teaching, healing or the arts, or a workplace where kindness is valued. Your empathy helps you read people and solve conflicts. Trust your instincts, and lead with understanding.
Money: Financially, this card suggests quiet stability and generosity. It may be income from caring or creative work, or help from someone who loves you. Give with a warm heart, but keep your own needs in mind and do not let sympathy drain your budget.
In health: The Queen of Cups points to emotional balance and healing through rest, creativity and self-care. Time near water, gentle movement and honest conversations all support you now. Listening to your body is as important as listening to others.
Spirituality: This card is a sign of deep intuition and spiritual wisdom. Dreams, signs and gut feelings may speak with clarity. You may feel drawn to meditation, ritual or healing practices. Trust the quiet voice within.
Generally: Reversed, the water grows turbulent and the Queen loses her calm. You may be overwhelmed by feeling, absorbing other people's moods or giving so much that nothing is left for you. It can also mean moodiness, insecurity or hiding your own needs. The card does not say your compassion is wrong. It says you need boundaries so it does not drown you.
In love: Reversed, the Queen of Cups can mean emotional neediness, codependency, jealousy or a partner who is distant or hard to read. In a long-term relationship, it may show up as unspoken hurt or one person carrying all the emotional work. Honest conversation, and clear limits, bring balance back.
In the workplace: This card may point to burnout from caring too much, taking criticism personally or being drained by a team's moods. Ask where you need to say no, and give yourself the same care you give others.
Money: Financially, the Queen of Cups reversed can mean overspending to soothe feelings, lending money out of guilt or letting sympathy cloud your judgement. Pause, check the facts and keep your own security in view.
In health: Reversed, this card may signify emotional exhaustion, suppressed feelings or self-neglect. Small acts of self-care help more than big changes. If low mood or anxiety continues, speak to a doctor or counsellor.
In spirituality: You may feel cut off from your intuition or overwhelmed by sensitivity. Do not force a sign. Rest, journal and let your inner calm return in its own time.
If it is upright: It is a green light for the heart. Compassion and intuition are strong, and you can trust them. Listen to your feelings, care for the people you love and create a gentle space for yourself. Remember that the Queen is wisdom in feeling, not only softness. The King shows how that wisdom is balanced with control and clear judgement.
If it is reversed: Stop and ask whose feelings you are carrying. Look for overgiving, mood swings or fear of saying no. Refill your own cup first, and take one small step, such as setting a boundary or taking a quiet evening for yourself, instead of trying to fix everything.
The Queen of Cups is the third court card of the Suit of Cups. It brings compassion, intuition and emotional maturity in relationships, career, money, health and spirit. Reversed, it points to overwhelm, codependency and self-neglect, and asks you to protect your own heart. The message is the same either way: true kindness begins with understanding your own feelings.
Each card in the Suit of Cups marks its own stage, from the Ace to the King.
