Story behind Ganesh Chaturthi
Ganesh Chaturthi celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, who is worshipped as the Vighnaharta (Remover of Obstacles) and the God of Wisdom and Success.
According to Hindu beliefs, Goddess Parvati created Ganesha from sandalwood paste and gave him life. She asked him to guard the entrance while she bathed. When Lord Shiva returned, Ganesha stopped him from entering, not knowing who he was. In the conflict that followed, Lord Shiva severed Ganesha’s head. Realising his mistake, he replaced it with the head of an elephant and blessed him to be worshipped before every auspicious beginning.
This is why Lord Ganesha is always worshipped first before starting any new work, ceremony, or celebration.
