According to Hindu scriptures, Sage Katyayana performed intense tapasya for many years with one heartfelt wish. The wish was for the Divine Mother to be born as his daughter. Pleased with his devotion, Goddess Durga appeared before him and fulfilled his wish by taking birth in his household.
